After Chernobyl Photo Exhibit and Fundraiser

We will be featuring the wonderful and inspiring photographs of Madison photographer and Fulbright Scholar, Michael Forester Rothbart.  His “After Chernobyl” Photo Exhibit is full of pictures and stories from people who live in the Chernobyl affected territory in Ukraine and whose everyday lives have been forever affected by this tragic nuclear accident.

FOCCUS supported five projects at the Chernobyl Centers in 2009 and here are just some of the things that this money was able to help accomplish:

·         1,008 girls in Korosten learned personal development, spiritual enrichment and better health to help prepare them for their future roles as mothers, wives and business women

·         225 high school students, 31 teachers and psychologists and 22 NGO leaders in Slavutich were educated about how to be a good citizen and implement the city’s Code of Ethics

·         460,000 viewers received information about Chernobyl and healthy living styles of the websites developed by the Boyarka Center

·         177 students learned computer skills in 360 study sessions in Borodyanka

We need your help so that FOCCUS can support the Chernobyl Centers’ 2010 projects.  Like in 2009, these projects will reach out to help many people living in their communities.  The 2010 projects include:

·         Youth leadership and advocacy training

·         Teaching healthy lifestyles to teenagers

·         Reducing the deficiency of iodine

·         Career counseling to high school students

·         Engaging elderly citizens to reduce their isolation

We hope to see you there!
